Come Holy Spirit, Come

“We are witnesses of these things, as is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him.”

The Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, was released onto the apostles in a powerful way at Pentecost.  The spirit came to rest upon them, and filled with this spirit, the apostles went out, changed men, and began to change the world.

Our patron, and one of my favorite saints, Peter, went from being a man who denied Jesus to a man who brought thousands to Jesus through his preaching and mighty works done in the name of our Lord. That’s a pretty radical change.

The Holy Spirit it still alive and well—working in our church and in our lives, when we are open to the Spirit. Just last weekend at the 5 p.m. Mass, we celebrated the Rite of Sending for our 2019 Confirmation Candidates. Please join me in praying for these teens, as they prepare to receive the Holy Spirit in a new and life-changing way at their Confirmation on Sunday, May 19.

Come Holy Spirit, come. Change our hearts. Change our lives. Help us to be witnesses.

Blessings,
